What is Botox?
Botox is a neuromodulator for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles that develop as a result of repetitive movements and expressions. Botox is a brand of botulism toxin type A, which is a safe and FDA approved injectable treatment. The function of a neuromodulator is to block the nerve signals that cause the repetitive movements such as frowning and squinting. With the nerve signals blocked the muscles can remain relaxed, with fine lines and wrinkles softened.
How is Botox Treatments Performed?
To start the treatment, the areas you would like treated will be marked to help the injector. The most common areas injected are the glabellar muscles between the eyebrows and the upper forehead to relax any horizontal lines running across. Once the treatment area is marked, Botox cosmetic will be injected into the area using a specific number of units (CC’s) determined by your injector.
Recovery
This treatment is minimally invasive and most patients find that the injections are rather painless. Because of this, there are few side effects associated with the treatment other than some redness or minor swelling at the injection site. These side effects typically subside within a few hours. Makeup can be applied to cover this redness and patients can then go about their day without downtime. Patients can expect to see results last approximately 4 months.
